Being Renamed
"The nations will see your vindication, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will bestow." Isaiah 62:2 (NIV)
Hey my beautiful readers! Thanks for clicking on this blog post today. So as a writer and a poet, I often dress my words up in fancy metaphors and similes. It's more comfortable for me. But today, I feel that it is necessary for me to be raw. Why? I know that I am not the only one who has faced trials of this kind and if there is only one person who reads this and is uplifted, that is enough for me.
As we heal from our pains, our identity must heal with it. One of my deepest desires is that the beautiful men and women of God who read this would truly walk in the identity that God has assigned to them and not the identity that their pain assigned.
When we look at the Bible, God has a characteristic of renaming people once He does a new thing in their life. Abram became Abraham, Sarai became Sarah, Jacob became Israel, Saul became Paul...and the list goes on. I don't believe our experience as believers is any different. Although we may not undergo a literal name change, God desires to change our identity when He does a new thing in our lives.
There are so many "victims" and not enough "overcomers." The Word of God says "they overcame him [the enemy] by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony (Revelations 12:11)." Looking back over my own life, I realized just how much of identity was associated with my pain. But today, with my beautiful readers as my witnesses, I am shifting my identity to realign with what God says about me. I pray that this encourages you as well to reassess the way that you think about yourself deep down and begin to align that with God's word.
It is time we stop answering to our old names and old identities.
